"Pandemic days" statement:
This series consists of found boxes from iPhone or similar electronic equipment, painted with acrylic and ink pen, and collaged paper images from Adriana’s mixed media “Waiting for this to end”.
These golden boxes evoke either people trapped indoors following quarantine or stay-at-home recommendations: some hopeful while enjoying more privileged stay-in-place conditions, some desperate for the crisis to be over to end an even worse reality than that of a virus infection, or even coffins for the thousands of victims that will not survive the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.
The words, phrases or quotes depicted in the boxes were expressed or heard by Adriana during the early pandemic days (March to May 2020) and they are loosely organized within the five stages (denial, anger, depression, bargaining and acceptance) that lead to the acceptance of grief or loss, as proposed by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book On Death and Dying.
The intention of this series is to bring perspective, even humor, and ultimately hope to the viewer during the Covid-19 crisis, and to eventually be an homage to its fighters, to those of us who will survive it, and to those of us who will be the ultimate victims of this pandemic when it is finally over
